CPRM: Why Your Personal Lines Broker Should Have It

There are a few different ways that you can purchase personal insurance. You could call around and get a quote for basic coverage, or you can work with a risk advisor who understands your complex needs and works with insurance carriers on your behalf to be sure that you, your family, and your assets are covered during a negative event.

For successful families, choosing a personal insurance risk advisor who has experience protecting your personal net worth, multiple homes (including property throughout the U.S.), high-value collections, and more may seem like a clear choice, but it is not always an easy one. Though it can be difficult to decide between one broker and another, there is one surefire way to tell whether your advisor has the experience you need to put your trust into their work – a CPRM certification.

What is a CPRM designation?

CPRM Logo

CPRM stands for Certified Personal Risk Manager, and an advisor with this designation can be trusted to handle all of the complex needs that an affluent family may have when it comes to insurance coverage. Today, there are only nine CPRMs in Wisconsin.

To achieve a CPRM designation, an individual must attend a series of classes (five in total) on topics like evaluation & protection of lifestyles, management of the business of high net worth & affluent clients, and practical applications of personal risk management. CPRMs must pass an intensive written exam on each topic to earn their designation.

Why you should work with a CPRM

There are basic personal coverages that every individual needs, and then there are the complex coverages that are necessary for individuals and families who have unique or high-value assets. Choosing a broker who is only used to working with basic coverages to protect your homes, automobiles, collectibles, and more could leave you open to exposures that may significantly affect your lifestyle.

CPRMs are trained and educated to specifically serve the lifestyles of affluent and high net worth clientele. We know exactly what questions to ask to ensure we’re gaining a comprehensive look at your risk and providing the right solution to protect you and your family. CPRMs have dedicated experience in providing coverage for:

  • High value homes, condos and apartments
  • Coastal, secondary and seasonal homes
  • Daily drive automobiles, exotic and collector cars
  • Jewelry, fine art and collectibles
  • Boats, yachts, personal watercraft and recreational vehicles
  • Umbrella and excess liability coverage
  • Travel/accident and trip interruption/cancellation insurance
  • Sewer/water and flood insurance
  • Identity theft restoration and cyber liability coverage
  • Equipment and breakdown coverage

When there is a lot at stake, it’s not enough to choose an advisor with basic experience. Your family deserves to work with someone who understands your unique concerns, and is, in fact, trained to specifically support you. When you choose a CPRM, you’re opting in for white glove service and the peace of mind that comes with knowing that you, your family, and your future are taken care of.
