22 of 50: Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha County

Sometimes the traditional path to buying a home just isn’t an option. But are there other ways? For nearly 30 years, Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha County has answered that question with a resounding “Yes!” by offering a hand up – not a handout – to families in need of affordable housing.

The organization works so effectively thanks to a combination of strategies. First, affordable mortgages not only help families become homeowners but also empower them to forge paths of their own toward self-sufficiency. But before those homes are completed, the following factors also play a key role:

  • In place of a down payment, each adult in a partner family contributes 250 hours of “sweat equity”
  • Dedicated volunteers reduce labor cost and bring construction knowhow
  • Individuals and businesses donate funding and building materials

For many years, Habitat Waukesha averaged building roughly one home per year. However, that pace has increased in recent years, enabling even more families a new beginning, a better environment for their children, and a real chance to break the poverty cycle.

Recognizing the far reach of true shelter

M3’s Kelsey Lorenz grew up in Waukesha County and lives there today. “Our partnership with Habitat Waukesha is one I hold near and dear to my heart,” says Kelsey. “I’ve had the privilege to witness the success of Habitat’s work over the years. For example, the White Rock Avenue area of Waukesha has been transformed. It screams community – not only with its beautiful new homes but also because of the families who have moved there and are inspired by a fresh start.”

“The Habitat Waukesha team is second to none. Each and every employee and volunteer brings passion and commitment to the cause – a cause that’s contagious,” continues Kelsey. “I’m proud to know and support such a deserving organization that brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.”

M3 has become a great partner with Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha County! In addition to providing competitive insurance for our employees, they are supportive of our programs and services. Many companies will choose to volunteer for a day, but M3 has volunteered both at the corporate level and individually on numerous days. They have supported us financially (to help build our homes) and attended our annual awards event that supports affordable housing. They’ve made a commitment to making an impact in Waukesha County through Habitat for Humanity’s efforts. They are an all-in partner, and we value their efforts and contributions. Thanks, M3!
